On Tuesday, April 2, the Board of County Commissioners issued their first ever proclamation in honor of Arab American Heritage Month. Approximately 6,700 Arab Americans make their home in Washington County and the proclamation shines a light on the long overdue acknowledgement of this vibrant community. In celebration of the rich cultural contributions and unique perspectives and experiences of Arab Americans, the proclamation was read into the record by two special guests—Taghrid Khuri, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies at Portland State University and Gender & Capacity Development Consultant, and Laila Hajoo, Co-founder and President of Islamic Social Services of Oregon State.
