News article

Starting December 8, 2022, and continuing until further notice, Washington County Animal Services and the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter will be open for walk-ins Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Staff will be on duty and phones will be answered from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on those days.

Why the change? We are experiencing a staffing shortage at this time. Reducing walk-in hours will provide uninterrupted time for our staff to focus on animal care and important administrative tasks for a few hours each day. We feel comfortable making this change now, as our walk-in traffic is typically low in the morning and late afternoon during the darker winter months.

Will services be impacted? Field response, enforcement and investigations will remain unchanged. If you have an urgent need outside of our walk-in hours, please call us at 503-846-7041 to discuss your situation and we will do our best to accommodate you. In the meantime, you can license your dog online, and we also have a lot of information on our website about what to do if you lose or find a pet.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
